The Belize International Film Festival (BIFF) announced last week the selection of films which will be showcased in the 10th edition of the festival to be held at ‘The Belize Ocean Club’ in Placencia Village on July 17th-19th, 2015.
Thousands of culture lovers have visited the lovely Central American nation of Belize to attend the renowned Belize International Film Festival. This year, the line-up includes emotional dramas from India, powerful documentaries from Trinidad & Tobago and the Saharui Republic, and a heart-wrenching tale of love, lust and betrayal from Nigeria.
Belize is proud to welcome many different cultures and the film festival is a great way to display and celebrate the interaction of local and regional cultures. Documentaries, feature films and short animations all showcase different perspectives on understanding and promoting inter-cultural harmony.
BIFF features winners in six different categories:
- Narrative feature film (80 minutes or longer)
- Short films (15 minutes or less)
- TV dramatic series (22-60 minutes)
- Documentary (50 minutes +)
- Short documentary (30 minutes or less
- Music videos (5 minutes or less)
Short and full-length narrative films, as well as both long and short documentaries, are open to contestants from anywhere around the world. BIFF restricts the TV dramatic series to pilots from Belize and the greater Caribbean area for soap operas, mini-series and telenovelas-type shoes. All of the music videos competing in BIFF 2015 are submitted, filmed and performed by Belizean artists in Belize.
The official BIFF schedule can be found online at their official website or by visiting their Facebook page dedicated to this year’s 10th anniversary festival. The home nation of Belize is proudly represented in the festival by a pair of lively short films and a moving documentary about the residents of the remote village of Gales Point in Belize banding together to help preserve the critically-endangered hawksbill sea turtle.
BIFF offers culture lovers sophisticated visual works of art to savor in between sampling the fresh local seafood or enjoying casual strolls along the pristine beaches of Placencia Village. Many visitors to the film festival continue their stay in Placencia afterwards with trips to visit the legendary Mayan ruins of Nim Li Punit and Lubantum or kayak across the gorgeous waters of Placencia Lagoon.
