For the first time ever, Laru Beya Resort located in Placencia in southern Belize has been chosen as a winner in the 2018 TripAdvisor Hall of Fame. This distinction awarded by TripAdvisor, the world’s largest website for travel information and reviews, is in recognition of Laru Beya having received their Certificate of Excellence for the past five years in a row.

TripAdvisor was founded in 2000 and contains more than 500 million reviews of restaurants, hotels, and travel attractions left by more than 315 million reviewers. TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence is only awarded to resorts like Laru Beya that consistently receive outstandingly positive reviews by TripAdvisor members. Fewer than 10% of the businesses listed on TripAdvisor are awarded the Certificate of Excellence. TripAdvisor uses a special, proprietary algorithm that factors in reviews, including their quality, quantity, and timeliness in order to determine which resort will be awarded its Certificate of Excellence.
The Hall of Fame was created in 2011 to honor those rare hospitality businesses that have successfully earned a Certificate of Excellence for five consecutive years. Laru Beya, having been selected for the 2018 Hall of Fame, will be given a special sticker to display at its reception desk and on its website. Only four other resorts in Belize were awarded this distinction in 2018.
