  • The leaves on the trees may still be in the process of changing, but the time to plan your amazing Christmas vacation in Belize is now! With more than 400 offshore islands, gorgeous sandy white beaches, and sunny, warm weather all winter long, the Christmas season is the most popular time to visit Belize.

It’s very easy to get to Belize. Affordable airfare deals can be found if you act now before all the best-priced tickets are scooped up. From the United States, American Airlines, Delta, Southwest, United, and Sun Country Airlines all fly non-stop to Belize from nearly a dozen major cities, including Los Angeles, Atlanta, Denver, Minneapolis, Miami, and Charlotte. From Canada, WestJet and Air Canada fly from Calgary and Toronto. And Aeromexico, for the first time ever, will be flying between Mexico City and Belize all winter.

When you get to Belize for your Christmas or New Year’s vacation, you can expect long, sunny days with daytime temperatures of around 80° F (27° C). And nights are balmy bliss with cool breezes and temperatures in the low 70s F (20-22° C). Water temperatures, too, are quite warm, making it easy to enjoy activities like swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, stand-up paddling, and windsurfing.

Belize is home to some lovely Christmas traditions, including a strong brew known as Rumpopo which is a kind of eggnog. While you can eat traditional foods like ham and turkey with all the trimmings, Belize’s lovely climate means that Christmas is also a great time to enjoy fresh-caught seafood and tropical fruits, too.

The people of Belize love celebrating Christmas. You’ll find carolers wending their way through the streets, singing a combination of traditional carols and ancient indigenous songs. The Garifuna people of Belize hold a dance called the Jankunu that features masked dancers whose exaggerated antics are a source of merriment for the enthusiastic crowds. Almost all the towns and villages in Belize hold a parade, including both traditional Catholic processions and raucous, modern celebrations.

There’s no better place to stay on your Belize Christmas vacation than the luxurious Laru Beya Resort on the beautiful Placencia Peninsula.
