When the wind howls and the snow begins to accumulate, the best place to escape the winter blues is a quick flight to Belize. Located in Central America, this English-speaking nation has white sandy beaches, warm sunny weather, and a wide variety of inland and offshore activities.

Belize has a mild, subtropical climate, with beautiful sunny weather and refreshing seabreezes at night. Temperatures in spring and early summer average in the mid to high 80s with nighttime temperatures rarely dropping below 75 degrees Fahreinheit. Thanks to its low latitude, water temperatures in the Caribbean Sea and inland rivers and lakes remains quite warm all year round, making Belize the perfect place for swimming, diving, and snorkeling.

Located in southeastern Belize, the beautiful Placencia Peninsula is separated from the mainland by a beautiful mangrove-lined bay. The eastern shore of the peninsula has miles of pristine white sand beaches fronting the lovely Caribbean Sea, making it the perfect place to relax in a hammock, splash in the warm waters, or head offshore for a lovely cruise or sail.

Visitors interested in mainland excursions can amble through the lovely Placencia Village at the southern tip of the peninsula or head further inland to experience the gorgeous Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, home to some of Central America’s last remaining jaguars as well as dozens of species of tropical birds. Other exciting nearby trip possibilities include heading up a jungle river to see monkeys, crocodiles, and manatees in their native habitat.

Placencia is also close to some of the best Maya ruins in the country. Whether you’re interested in exploring the majestic depths of the enormous Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave or climbing the temples of the Mayan city of Nim Li Punit.

Placencia is just a short boat ride away from the stunning Belize Barrier Reef, the second-largest coral reef in the world. Dozens of species of fish, sharks, anemones, sponges, and other colorful marine life make their home in and around the reef, making the Belize Barrier Reef one of the best places in the world to enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing.
