On February 9-10, 2019, the village of Placencia will host the 16th annual Placencia Sidewalk Arts Festival. The village’s world-famous central sidewalk will transform into an interactive art gallery and music festival. Booths will line the sidewalk selling delicious local foods and drinks, paintings, handmade clothing and furniture, sculpture, and wood carvings.
Although it has just around 1,000 full-time residents, the village of Placencia holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for the world’s smallest main street. Measuring just four feet across and approximately 4,000 feet long, the pedestrian-only central sidewalk functions as the village’s principal transportation artery.
In 2019, attendees will be fascinated by the plethora of Belizean arts, live music, and succulent Belizean cuisines that will be on display at the event.
Last year, the festival was attended by popular Belizean artists such as Kim Wedemeyer, Tanisha Burgess, Emmit Young, Jack Dooley, Kelvin Balzar, Pen Cayetano, Gilvano Swasey, and Walter Castillo. And of course, these artists are scheduled to be in attendance in 2019!
Laru Beya is a charming resort located just a short walk away from the traditional Garifuna village of Seine Bight on the Placencia Peninsula. It is a full-service beach resort, complete with its own mini golf course, private beach, freshwater swimming pool, lending library, and the free use of bicycles so that guests can explore the peninsula and nearby villages, including Placencia Village where the Sidewalk Arts Festival will be held.
Guests attending the Placencia Sidewalk Arts Festival can enjoy beachfront tranquility with their choice of sumptuous rooms, dining at the on-site Quarterdeck Restaurant, and participating in organized tours to all of the top attractions in the area, including sailing, fishing, snorkeling, and diving on the nearby Belize Barrier Reef.
