Earlier this month, Canadian low-cost airline WestJet announced that it will be adding three new routes to Central America, including a non-stop flight from Calgary to Belize City beginning November 3, 2017.
In October 2016, WestJet became the first Canadian airline in more than 20 years to offer non-stop flights to Belize from Canada. After a successful winter 2016/17 season flying from Toronto’s Pearson International (YYZ) to Belize City (BZE), arch rival Air Canada announced that it too will be entering the red-hot Belize travel market with a flight from Toronto to Belize beginning in December 2017.
The new Calgary (YYC) to Belize City flight (YYZ) will originate November 3, 2017, flying once a week throughout the 2017/18 winter season, giving residents of Western Canada an affordable way to enjoy the sunny skies and balmy temperatures of Belize.
WestJet and Air Canada have joined the four biggest airlines in the United States, Southwest, Delta, United, and American Airlines, in offering non-stop flights to Belize from major cities across North America. Southwest alone has added three nonstop flights to Belize during the past year, contributing to Belize’s record number of overnight visitors. In the first six months of 2017, Belize experienced an increase of 9.1% in visitor numbers as compared to the year prior.
